'Weaving Community’ is a group exhibition by our Shutter Room members that explores ideas of community, connection, collaboration and belonging through lens-based and photographic practice.

The Portrait Project

Saturday 12 April & Sunday 13 April

An invitation was extended to everyone living in Whangārei to come into the Shutter Room and have their portrait taken.  The intention was to celebrate our diversity and difference.  Over 60 portraits were made in two days - each participant was given a print and their image was shown on a screen in the exhibition.  

…the photographic portrait is a master at showing what we look like…on the outside…it  is especially good at showing our differences, our diversity…

A single image is being made of all the portraits layered one on top of the other to show what we would look like it we melded all our features into one likeness!!  Watch this space - it will be uploaded soon.
