CLOSER is the debut exhibition of local artist Graeme Lee Main, opening Friday 5 September 2025 here at the Shutter Room Gallery. This body of work explores the beauty and vitality of New Zealand’s birds and flowers through the lens of close-up photography.

“I have been a photographer for over 30 years, but nothing compares to taking a close look at what nature hides in plain sight. The exquisite details in New Zealand birds, flowers and plants are breathtaking. This exhibition is a personal invitation to step into my vision of Aotearoa."

Featuring over 20 original photographs, CLOSER employs techniques such as photostacking to reveal fine details often hidden from everyday perception. Main’s images are marked by their intense clarity—inviting viewers to look again, drawing them away from the familiar and into a space of curiosity, where the subject becomes abstracted and open to interpretation.
