I LOVE RUST.
Rust has history and history must be captured before it disappears.
With my trusty camera I help to depict a little of that history before the subject disappears altogether. The subject goes through an aging process which is full of rich, beautiful colours as well as transitioning from being smooth to the touch to become textured and rough .
The subject begs to be photographed before it passes away to dust.
The "MAHENO" a ship that has passed through many lives in this century is one of the subjects pictured here. I saw her gradually disappear over the past 20 years and was fortunate enough to visit her again 2 years ago to take these photos. She will totally disappear from view in a few short years and will be remembered only in photographs.
A "graveyard" for old tractors seen near Hervey Bay Qld. at sunset was another exciting find for me.
When coming to Whangarei Heads for the first time, I was delighted to find an old boiler on the shore at Reotahi so I photographed it in all its glory, but have yet to discover where it came from in a former life and how it has come to rest there.
Wandering around the shipyards of Whangarei Harbour showed me how the salt air has affected boats waiting to have their rust removed.
RUST for me is like gold, waiting to be discovered.
